SRS joins the H2020 MONROE project through the first open call for extensions and experiments with SOPHIA: Software Radio for Measuring Mobile Broadband Networks. Since 2008, the FIRE (Future Internet Research and Experimentation) initiative has bridged the gap between visionary research and large-scale experimentation on new networking and service architectures and paradigms. The MONROE project proposes to design and operate the first European transnational open platform for independent, multi-homed, large-scale monitoring and assessment of performance of Mobile Broadband networks in heterogeneous environments. Under SOPHIA, SRS will extend the MONROE platform to support software radio applications, using existing SRS open-source libraries and applications to demonstrate the benefits of software radio to perform detailed measurements of mobile broadband networks. The SOPHIA project commenced in June 2016 with an overall duration of 12 months.
